Do we know how genetics affect survivability? I know several people who have had medical conditions that were expected to be fatal, yet were not. Is it possible that along with the tendency towards certain diseases or bodily malfunctions could the ability to resist the symptoms also be inherited? It occurs to me that the fact that the gene is indeed passed on to future generations is only possible due to an ability for its carriers to live long enough to pass on the defective gene.
