April 5, 2005: Since it is already known that Down Syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome at the 21st, what needs to be done to intercept or remedy this condition? What is being considered now? Is there anything that looks promising?

July 13, 2004: I have heard a lot about Down syndrome and chromosome 21. I have also heard a lot about chromosome 21 and Alzheimer's. Is there any correlation between Alzheimer's and Down syndrome? Isn't chromosome 21 the chromosome that is duplicated when someone has Down syndrome?

May 25, 2004: In Down syndrome besides regular trisomy there is a chance of having a translocation of chromosome no.21 with chromosomes 13, 14,or 15. One of the parents can be a balanced carrier of this translocation. I read that if a father is carrier then there is an increased chance of having an affected child than if the mother is a carrier of translocation. Why is this difference?
