Why does hair color change with age? I was born with dark brown hair which turned blond by the time I was 2. My mother was born with blond hair which slowly turned brown by her 30s. How does this work?

I have been wondering this for a while since I've seen it pop up on various websites and forums…will red hair eventually go extinct? I honestly don't believe it will because it is recessive from what I know, and recessive genes don't up and disappear.

My grandma on my dad’s side had red hair and so does my wife. What are our chances of having a redhead?

I am pregnant and I was curious on the probability that our son will have red hair. My husband has bright red hair, and so did his mom. My grandmother, father and all my aunts and great grandmother had fire red hair while young. I have brownish-red hair. I would just like to know what our odds are.

Being a redhead, I thoroughly object to the categorization of our MC1R protein as "not working," as though we are mistakes. We are special, thank you very much. What makes brown right and red a mistake? Maybe this protein is wrong most of the time, and every once in a while it doesn't screw up.

I am a mother of two boys, 3 years and 8 months. My husband has dark brown hair and brown eyes and I have light brown hair and blue eyes and both our boys have red hair. We can trace red hair back two generations, but it skipped our parents and us. How does this happen?

I am blue-eyed, red-haired, fair-skinned and freckled. I am marrying a brown-eyed, black-haired, brown-skinned Indian man. My friend was joking that I would have a kid with dark skin, blue eyes, red hair and freckles. After thinking about it though, I wonder, what will the skin of my children look like? I am guessing brown, but what about the freckles? I have read that they are a dominant trait. What are the odds of freckles coming through?
